Capital framework

DNB capital framework

External parameters for the financial services industry were changed through the introduction of new capital adequacy regulations (Basel II) on 1 January 2007. Major adjustments were made to the capital adequacy framework after the financial crisis in 2008. In Norway, important changes, the Basel III regulations, were transposed into Norwegian legislation as of 1 July 2013. Basel III is a comprehensive set of reform measures, developed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, to strengthen the regulation, supervision and risk management of the banking sector.

The new capital adequacy regulations define specific requirements regarding the disclosure of financial information and how the rules affect individual financial institutions (Pillar 3).
